Low Water 0-20mm rainfall
Under low water conditions, Blackwater Tubing the Storms River is similar to kloofing where one paddles the pools and walks the shallow sections. The experience is a serene adventure with fun filled hours of splashing, swimming, rock jumping and hiking in one the most spectacular landscapes on Garden Route – the Tsitsikamma.
Medium to High Water 20-600mm rainfall
On medium to high water conditions, Blackwater Tubing is packed with action as the rapids become runable. Grade 3 rapids and rock jumps are optional and our safety conscious guides are always ready to assist the feint hearted.
All equipment is supplied, but participates should bring shoes suitable for walking through water in a rocky river bed.
People suffering acute medical conditions such as bone breakages, cuts and abrasions, heart disease, severe allergic reactions to stings or hay fever, should advise on their condition and take into consideration the fact that Blackwater Tubing takes place in a remote river gorge where slipping and falling can occur and where rescue operations take several hours to execute effectively.
Non swimmers are warned that if they are not comfortable in water, tubing in Storms River under medium to high water levels may not be a good idea as the chances are high that they may be tossed out of their tubes in rapids.
Although our safety equipment provides sufficient buoyancy, non-swimmers often feel claustrophobic in water especially fast flowing river water.
