By far the best way to view game in Plett.
Having been on a few game drives in my life and being interested in viewing game, I was keen to try something new... and what an experience this turned out to be.
I last rode a horse when I was a teenager so I was at first a little nervous about getting back in the saddle. I was given a horse named "Rooi" - meaning Red in Afrikaans, to ride and he turned out to be an extremely mellow horse. The guide, Robert, got everyone mounted up and off we set at a leisurely walk through the reserve.
The beauty of the horseback safari is that at night the horses are put out to pasture with the rest of the wild animals. The result of this is that when you approach on horseback, the animals see and smell horse and not human, and you can get incredibly close to even the most skittish of them. You can just see that the animals are comfortable with you being there.
Taking photos from horseback was very simple and the close-up images of the animals, especially the rhino, are some of my favourites.
Two hours flew by and this is an experience I would relive in heartbeat.
