The Crags outside Plettenberg Bay is a blossoming farming community filled with natural wonder and modern farming methods.
Wine farms, adrenaline-pumping activities and nature are in ready supply all within 5km of each other. One great way to see the natural beauty of The Crags is on horseback. There is also the full day "Cruise the Crags" trail that takes you from animal sanctuaries and eco-activities to a selection of boutique wine farms in the area.
One Hour Farm Trail: Departs Daily at 9am & 3pm
Meander across lush green fields, overlooking the forest and mountains in the distance, amongst farm animals and local wildlife.
Two Hour Forest Trail: Departs daily at 10am and 2pm
Explore local forest and farmland. You might get close to Baboons, Monkeys and indigenous birds, with an option of a trot or canter over beautiful emerald fields with views over the surrounding forest and mountains in the distance.
Three Hour Forest Trail: Departs daily at 10am
Meander across lush green fields, overlooking the forest and mountains in the distance. A beautiful ride past tea plantations and vineyards at the foot of the magnificent Tsitsikamma mountains. This ride reaches the Kurland Polo Estate with open fields and a single track at the foot of the mountains, ideal for an optional trot or canter whilst being close to nature.
Half or Full Day Kurland Picnic Trail : Departure Daily @ 11h00 for half day and 10h00 for full day:
A beautiful ride through fields, tea plantations, vineyards and forest, with views over the Tsitsikamma Mountains to the magnificent Kurland Polo Estate. An optional picnic is available on request under the Oak Trees or in front of the fire on chilly days.
Adventurous riders will enjoy the full day option which leads to a view point overlooking The Crags, the ocean and Robberg Nature Reserve in the distance.

An action filled day amidst the magnificent Crags at the foot of the Tsitsikamma Mountains, riding on horse back between fun filled activities. Choose up to two of the following activities plus a lunch venue and tailor make your own route on horseback. Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, Crags Elephant Sanctuary, Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary, fresh farm fare at Peppermill Café or a delectable Tappas Lunch at Bramon Wine Estate. Booking required 48 hours in advance and package prices upon enquiry.

Enjoy the Crags Wine Route on horseback. Explore the beautiful vineyards, Fynbos and forest whilst tasting local wines and accompanying delectable fare at a choice of five wine estates in this area : Bramon Wine Estate (open every day), Redford Lane Wines (open Tuesday – Sunday), Lodestone (open Tuesday – Sunday), Kay & Monty (open Tuesday – Sunday) and Newstead Wines (open Tuesday to Saturday).
Half day trip costs include one wine farm but exclude wine tasting and lunch.
Full day trip costs include two wine farms but exclude wine tasting and lunch.
All level of riders welcome - the emphasis is on delivering a safe and enjoyable ride. Maximum weight is 120kg.
Riders must arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the ride. Recommended clothing is jodhpurs or jeans and closed shoes and comfortable, yet warm tops. Riders should also bring sun block and anti-histamine or asthma pumps if allergic to horse hair.
